Winter Storm Declared Snow Risk of 4 for the Weekend of March 14th

(IntegrityWeather.com) –– An upper-level system will move in from the west by Saturday with primary impacts to occur Saturday night through Sunday from South Dakota eastward.

A deformation band is forecast to develop over eastern South Dakota by Saturday night capable of producing 1-2 inch per hour snowfall rates.

This impulse of moisture is forecast to move east through the Twin Cities and into Wisconsin with strong support for over 6 inches of snow across the level 3 risk zone.

Inside this area we have elected a snow risk of 4 from the vicinity of Minneapolis to Wisconsin where probabilities are the greatest for locally over 12 inches of snow accumulation.

Additionally, blizzard-like conditions will be possible Sunday afternoon/evening across South Dakota and eastward through Minnesota and Wisconsin given strong wind gusts of 30-50 mph.

Further south, Iowa and surrounding areas will see primarily rain with some backside snow showers possible Sunday afternoon/evening and minimal accumulation anticipated.

A sharp cutoff is likely along the level 2 to 3 zones where a period a wintry mix will be probable and given that, some areas over southern Minnesota may simply miss out on snow here.

While some minor adjustments are still possible, areas from the upper Midwest to the Great Lakes should be prepared for heavy to locally significant snow accumulation.
