(IntegrityWeather.com) — An upper-level system is forecast to move in from the west today delivering heavy snow tonight through Sunday from eastern South Dakota through Minnesota and to Wisconsin.
As the surface cyclone ejects, a deformation band with 1-3 inch per hour rates will develop over eastern South Dakota tonight, then work eastward into Minnesota overnight into Sunday.
This will produce a widespread swath of 6-12 inches of snow accumulation across the magenta zone with locally 12-18 inches from the vicinity of the Twin Cities and eastward to Wisconsin.
As stated in the previous discussion, we anticipate a sharp cutoff over southern Minnesota from around and below 6 inches of snow due to the consistent position of the dry slot.
Strong northwest winds will accompany the main wave of moisture on Sunday with gusts of 30-50 mph and the best probabilities for prolonged blizzard conditions over portions of SD/MN/WI.
Additionally, rain will develop and work across Iowa on Sunday with snow showers expected during the afternoon/evening leading to a brief period of white-out conditions.
