A strong belt of southwesterly flow will trigger a secondary round of initial severe thunderstorms along a cold front beginning late this evening and extending through the overnight period.
While initial discrete activity will pose a severe threat capable of large hail and damaging winds, the primary focus will rapidly shift toward heavy rainfall over the course of the overnight period.

Given the increasingly saturated soil conditions across the region, particularly southwest/central Iowa, the high precipitation rates will elevate the risk for scattered instances of flash flooding.
