(IntegrityWeather.com) — An upper-level trough and surface low will move across the Northern Plains on Thursday with a cold front extending southward through Nebraska/Iowa and into Kansas.

Scattered severe thunderstorm development is expected along the frontal zone after 3pm, capable of large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes.

While the primary tornado threat is focused across eastern KS, a secondary (lower-end) risk is evident over west/northwest IA where an overlap of vorticity and instability is expected.

By Thursday evening, convection is forecast to undergo upscale growth with the threat shifting to primarily damaging wind gusts.

Forecast guidance suggests convective impacts for the Omaha vicinity between 3-6pm, with activity reaching the Des Moines and Kansas City corridors during the 7-10pm window.

The next update is scheduled for Thursday morning.
