(IntegrityWeather.com) — A significant severe weather episode appears likely this afternoon and evening across portions of eastern Iowa, northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
In the wake of morning convection, low-level moisture and instability is forecast to advect northward, with scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms expected to develop by 3-4pm over far east Iowa into northern Illinois.
While initial discrete supercells will create a threat for all severe hazards, enhanced low-level shear will foster a more concentrated risk for strong tornadoes and large hail with the early afternoon activity.
By late afternoon and early evening, some upscale growth is anticipated with a gradual shift toward primarily damaging wind gusts of 60-80 mph, alongside a risk for embedded spin-up tornadoes within the line.
The current forecast timeline places the most intense activity across far southeast Iowa roughly between 3-6pm, moving into northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin after 5pm and extending through 8pm.
